Commonwealth Bank of Australia has succeeded in attracting Carmel Mulhern from Telecom Giant Telstra to become the bank’s new general counsel. Ms Mulhern will oversee the legal department for the Common Commonwealth Bank of Australia, which has international branches in Asia, Europe, New Zealand and North America. She swaps the general counsel at Australia’s top telecommunications and technology company for the country’s largest bank.

Paul Jones, who retired from American Airlines as its top lawyer earlier this year, is being replaced by Priya Aiyar as senior vice president and general counsel. In her new role, Ms Aiyar will head up the airline’s legal affairs team and its legal strategies, including corporate governance, securities and corporate finance, business and commercial, litigation, competition and antitrust, compliance, privacy, environmental, employment and intellectual property matters. She reports to Steve Johnson, executive vice president of corporate affairs. Ms Aiyar, a former Obama administration official, was previously a partner in the litigation department and global trade and investment practice group at Willkie Farr & Gallagher in Washington DC.

Sara Barbot Roquette has been appointed head of legal at BA Glass Group. She is a former associate at Telles Advogados, where she worked for 18 months. Ms Roquette was previously senior in-house counsel at Efacec and a senior associate at PLMJ.

Cred, the cryptocurrency lending and borrowing company, has hired the former head of fintech at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner as its new top lawyer. Cred announced that Daniel “Dan” Wheeler, a former partner in Bryan Cave’s San Francisco office, will serve as its general counsel.

Real estate investment trust PotlatchDeltic has appointed a new general counsel and secretary. Michele Tyler, who was most recently chief legal officer and corporate secretary at Vectrus, has been chosen by the Nasdaq-listed company. Ms Tyler succeeds Lorrie Scott, who is retiring at the end of 2019 after serving in her role since 2010. Before Vectrus she was vice president and general counsel at Exelis Systems Corporation, and also worked in-house at ITT Systems Corporation.

Wheelhouse Group has hired general counsel Rob Lia as company president. Mr Lia is to oversee and manage all business operations, as well as planning and investing across all subsidiaries of the group, including entertainment and content, marketing and brand initiatives, and Wheelhouse’s events division and investment and real estate ventures. He was previously a partner in the corporate department at law firm Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP, specialising in executive compensation and taxation in private and public M&A transaction. He left there in 2015 to assist Montgomery in his various business ventures, including launching Wheelhouse.

Miek Harbur has been named senior vice president, general counsel, at The New Home Company. Ms Harbur has been promoted from her previous position of vice president, general counsel. She joined New Home in January 2016 and since then has expanded her role for the publicly traded company from her initial focus on securities and corporate governance matters to oversight over all risk management and legal functions within the organization. Prior to New Home, Ms Harbur worked at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP where she served as corporate counsel to a variety of public and private companies.
